Leaving early in the morning, we travel eight (8) hours from Rurre by motorized dugout up the Beni River, first through the Bala Canyon and then up the Tuichi River into Madidi National Park. We arrive to a camp on the beach and have lunch. We then continue by dugout up the Tuichi River to the village of San Jose de Uchupiamonas, one of the few inside the Madidi National Park. We'll have a formal introduction to the community, purchase supplies and take some time to finish preparations for the trek. After a traditional dinner and cultural night, rest and overnight in basic accomodations in San Jose.

DAY 4 / SAN JOSE / CAPYWARA / TREK DAY 1
An early departure by boat four (4) hours upriver and we arrive to Capywara, our starting point for the trek. There we load our gear and begin the trek. The jungle trail takes us north over the final range of foothills into the headwaters of the Madidi River. We cross creeks and small hills along the way. Camping.

DAY 5 / TREK DAY 2
Trekking and Camping.

DAY 6 / TREK DAY 3
We continue the trek through the jungle. We arrive at our equipment stash in the afternoon sometime. Once at the banks of the Madidi River we will begin to prepare our equipment to float the river tomorrow. Camping.

DAY 7 / FLOAT DAY 1
Descend the Madidi River from it's headwaters as it winds its way through the final Andean foothills and drops into the flat Amazon Basin. This relatively calm class I-II jungle river, in some of the most pristine foothill rainforest in South America, affords spectacular camping and superb wildlife viewing as you paddle inflatable or folding kayaks - this mode of travel allows us to stealthily sneak up on many unwary species as we are relatively quiet while traveling. We will spend the next to last night at Alto Madidi, where the river finally makes it's way out of the Andes. Camping every night.

DAY 8 / FLOAT DAY 2
